Nitwit Global Warming Skeptics

This post has been updated here.

It has amused me for years that certain nitwits and pea-brained political conservatives think concern about global climate change is a left-wing PETA conspiracy initiated by Bill and Hillary to keep Americans down.

The pea-brainiest among the skeptics is my local radio talk show host who, citing the local TV weatherman as his scientific expert, says only tree huggers and members of the Green Party believe in global warming.

The myriad excuses the nea-sayers come up with to discount scientific evidence showing planetary change are so ignorant and frivilous it's hard to argue against them one on one. It's all a librul plot to destroy the American life-style doncha know.

On NPR's Science Friday today, a discussion about a new report published in the latest issue of SCIENCE magazine make the argument easier to make. It seems, clear and convincing evidence shows beyond doubt that global warming exists beyond any possible natural occurance or cycle and that it is a result of human activity, especially CO2 emissions from fossile fuels.

Some places, global warming, regardless of its cause, is a life and death issue.

Hey you! Did ya hear what I said?

Thanks for the links. I need some ammo and I'm going to pick a fight with one of your "libral bashers". The conceptual blindness among the ruling regime is, as you suggest, impossible to overlook!

NPR and "Science" magazine? And you call ME a nitwit?

You poor, deluded asswit.

Gee Acidman, did you bother to read the linked Reuters story? You know, the one quoting department heads of both NOAA and the NCAR? I don't suppose you bothered to read any of the web references provided by Science magazine.

I'd be interested in what sources you have Acidman? Your awfully big on the name calling and rants, but there seems to be a noteworthy lack of factual information in your babble -- or did I miss something on Rush or in the well regarded scientific journal, National Rifleman?

You can find "scientists" who will say practically anything. There are thousands of scientists who dispute your sources for using unscientific techniques. For us laymen, all we can do is apply a little common sense.

The article you cited claims CO2 content is up over 30%. My BS meter says that we couldn't breath if that was true.

We know the earth once had an ice age - we've warmed up a helluva lot since then, even before I started driving my SUV.

NASA just put out a report that says Mars is warming up. I don't need a degree from MIT to know it has nothing to do with factories or SUVs.

Common sense tells me that with the huge variations around the globe, it is not possible to detect a one or two degree difference. But if the earth is indeed warming, perhaps it's caused by variations from that huge nuclear blast furnace us common folks call "the sun".

See what I mean about nitwits? These comments are typical of the tin foil hat types who climb on the wingnut bandwagon and claim evidence of human-induced climate change is a liberal plot against them and their way of life.

You can imagine what kind of life they have by the language they use, lack of reading comprehension skills, and Limbaugh reasoning.

Note that I only linked to published or taped interviews, journals, and newspaper articles. I didn't make up the evidence, merely reported it.

Yet the comments attack me and cite 1970s Ice Age baloney.

Time for these nitwits to rendevouz with the mother ship and rejoin their alien lovers.

I think remaining skeptical about global warming is a natural reaction to the "1970s ice age baloney" that you mention, at least for those of us over 40. Government agencies and scientists were the ones warning us back then of global cooling. I sat in junior high and high school social studies/government/civics classes in the mid-seventies and we were taught it as fact, not theory, less than 30 years ago. Then it suddenly switched to global warming.

I'm only 44 and I've lived through periods when scientists warned us both of the coming disasterous effects of global cooling, and now global warming. Throw in the other warnings about the upcoming food and oil shortages that we also heard, and that never happened, and it seems more foolish NOT to be skeptical.

I've yet to read anything that explains how we (scientists actually) went from global cooling to warming. Maybe if some of them could explain why they were wrong then and right now it would help, but one thing that will not convince me is computer models.

The latest work at the end of 2003 by MkKitrick shows the "Holy Grail" hockey stick paper used as the center piece by the IPCC to be dead wrong. And to make it even funnier, they used Mann's et al own procedures and data to prove it wrong! So the data now shows the 1400's to be much warmenr then it is now with NO CO2---imagine that! As an engineer who can actually understand the Math and Causal systems, the VOSTOK Ice data is proof enough that the earth has been cooling and warming for many years for little concern about humans. Other recent work 2003-2004 is showing more connection to of all things, the Sun. Isn't it funny I can ask a 1st grader what warms the earth, and they can answer the Sun. Apparently, left wing wackos don't even know that simple truth.
