In 1992 I traveled to Rio de Janeiro to cover the Earth Summit for the television news agency I then worked for. One of the more memorable interviews I conducted was with a minister from a South Pacific nation. The man was unusually articulate on the matter of global warming and put the then dubious phenomena in context for me. He said that as the sea level rises, his entire country, the whole nation would begin to disappear. I've aways remembered the dramatic image his comment fostered in my mind and have occasionally used it anecdotally when writing about or discussing GW--especially with skeptics to refuse to acknowledge reality. So, now comes this British newspaper report. Could it be any clearer?

on passion, not on principle but on politics."
