It's "bay-gell" in BC, Canada. Apparently in Montreal, where it is also considered a regional food, the French say b-a-g-a-l.

Did you know bagals may have come from Cracow Poland, where in 1610 "beygls" were given as gifts to women in childbirth. Eastern European Jews brought it to Montreal and New York in the great emigrations of the 1880's.
